This colorful striped semi precious gemstone is Candy Opal and it is found in western Utah, in the Thomas Mountain Range near the city of Milford.
It is also known as Bacon Opal.
Opal that is mostly opaque, with no play of color, is actually quite common. Opal is a hydrated silica material and it has a hardness of 5.5 to 6.5.
