Chrysocolla is usually a soft rock but occasionally when silica was present during its formation, it becomes a beautiful rare gemstone known as Gem Silica that is translucent and a 7 hardness! This is one of those pieces.
Beautiful natural freeform organic shaped blue Gem Silica Chrysocolla with some green Malachite 63 mm (2.5 inches) by 43 mm and 7 mm thick.
This blue and green semiprecious stone is found in the oxidation zone of major copper deposits.
This Chrysocolla-Malachite comes from the Bagdad Mine in Arizona.
Chrysocolla-Malachite is fragile and is usually stabilized before cutting into designer cabochons or cut with a hardening resin. It is about a 3-4 on the Moh's scale and care must be taken when wearing or cleaning your cabochons.
