Extra Large Collector Cabochons or Cabs
A "cabochon" (pronounced kab-e-shawn and often shortened to cab) is described as a stone that is not faceted, but is cut into a convex and usually highly polished shape. In general stones that are transparent (light passes through) are faceted, stones that are translucent (some light passes through) or opaque (no light passes through) are usually cut into cabs. Also softer stones are usually cut into cabs, as they scratch easier. At BarlowsGems we have specilized in beautiful extra large collector cabochons or cabs, from unique materials for over 30 years. What we refer to in the trade as "pig" stones-these extra large cabochons or cabs are huge! These collector cabochons are at least 60 mm or almost 2.5 inches long. Each of our extra large collector cabs is handcut, often from stone materials that are self-collected. They are perfect as just a collector item, as a display piece, or epoxy on a belt buckle or jewelry finding for a one of a kind piece of jewelry.
