This colorful striped gemstone is Candy Opal from Utah. It is slightly translucent (usually in the clear bands!) and has red, white, pink and yellow stripes.
Opal that is mostly opaque, with no play of color, is actually quite common. Opal is a hydrated silica material and it has a hardness of 5.5 to 6.5. The name Opal comes from the Latin word opalus which means "precious stone".
Metaphysical Properties: Common Opal is said to be a calming stone that will help you relax.
