Odsidian is a natural volcanic glass. This glassy, lustrous mineral is found in lava flows. Obsidian is produced when lava cools very quickly. The lava cools so quickly that no crystals can form. This variety is referred to as Mahogany Obsidian and the red coloration is likely the result of trapped hematite. This freeform bead is 29 mm long by 19 mm wide and 8 mm thick. It is drilled with a 4.5 mm hole.
